There’s an undeniable magic charm about a summer wedding in Southern Spain. The golden light, the rustic charm, the olive groves, and warm late nights… it's the perfect recipe for an incredible day.
But if you aren't familiar with the Andalucian sun, here are a few tips to help you have a cool and comfortable day. And if we can keep ice cream cool in 40°C, we must be qualified to give you some advice!
1. Ceremony Timing
With all your friends and family there to share the day with you, of course you want to make the most of it. But trust us, a ceremony before 5pm could have you (and your guests) melting in the sun. Summer days in Andalucia can usually get up to 35°C between June and August. And sometimes it can get closer to 40°C. Go for a later ceremony time and enjoy that golden-hour glow, and make the hours up on the dance floor.
2. Hydration station
It's easy to get caught up in the wine and cava, but don’t forget the essentials—water and refreshing non-alcoholic drinks are a must. You don't want anyone passing out before dinner! Think infused waters, chilled lemonades, iced teas or mocktails. Set up a hydration station with lots of ice and fresh fruit—it’ll look gorgeous and your guests will love you for it.
3. Handheld Fans – Practical and Pretty
Embrace the Spanish vibes and offer guests handheld fans. Not only are they practical, but they make lovely favors and add a beautiful and practical touch to your wedding aesthetic.
4. Throw some shade!
Your venue might be beautiful, but check how much natural or created shade is available. Umbrellas, sailcloth canopies, marquees, or even rustic pergolas can make all the difference. Create lounge areas with shady spots where guests can cool off between events—especially important if you’ve got older relatives or little ones attending.

5. Dress Code: Cool and Comfortable
A formal dress code in southern Spanish summer heat? Brutal. Encourage guests to dress smart, but light—linen shirts, flowy dresses, and breathable fabrics are key. Let gents know they can ditch the jackets and ties, and maybe even build that into the style of your wedding. It’s all about relaxed elegance.
6. Quick-Change for the Groom
The groom may look dashing walking down the aisle, but give him the option of a fresh shirt for later incase he got a bit sweatier than anticipated.
7. Ladies: Test the tape
Bra and dress tape doesn’t always play nicely with heat and humidity. Test everything beforehand, and consider going with outfits that don’t rely heavily on tape to stay in place.
8. Scream for ice cream
It goes without saying - ice cream is always a hit, especially if it's a hot day! Treat your guests to our refreshing frozen yoghurt and real fruit combinations to take the edge off, and give them something to talk about!
So with a little planning and these practical tips, you’ll keep things cool, chic, and effortlessly beautiful.
